Mujeres en las primeras artes telecolaborativas en los Estados Unidos de América

Con la aparición de dispositivos electrónicos y de telecomunicación en los hogares, tales como videocámaras y ordenadores con conexión a Internet, surgen nuevas prácticas artísticas centradas en la colaboración e interacción a distancia. Estas prácticas se empiezan a desarrollar en los años 80 y tienen sus raíces análogas en el arte fluxus y el arte postal. Este artículo es un estudio histórico de las mujeres que formaron parte de estas prácticas artísticas que usaron la primera tecnología de telecomunicación en Estados Unidos. Se examina su trabajo artístico en torno al concepto redes que crean arte a través de colaboración, conectividad e interacción, así como su contenido social. Se presenta una selección de mujeres artistas del arte de las telecomunicaciones de la década de los 80 y de arte interactivo en las redes computacionales en los inicios de los 90, de las cuales una fue la exposición colectiva de 1992 Matrix: Women Networking, formada únicamente por mujeres, una de las primeras en la historia del arte electrónico.
